Last year the former German AFS workshop turned into an European event. It got organized outside Germany in Graz, Austria. This year the meeting is hosted in Rome, Italy, and we would like to encourage participation from more than the German speaking countries.
… und wer würde nicht gerne mal nach Rom? 
The workshop is mainly a platform for system administrators to exchange their knowledge and report use cases. Topics of interest include related technologies like Kerberos or LDAP and all supported operating systems.

Allein für diese drei Vorträge hat sich die Fahrt von über 7h gelohnt.
Die anderen Vorträge waren natürlich auch nicht zu verachten, und die Jungs der TU haben sich wirklich Mühe gegeben! Danke!
Die Road Map für OpenAFS sieht vielversprechend aus – und Jeff & Derrick haben uns einen sehr informativen Einblick in die nächsten Versionen gegeben. Das wird spannend…
…aber jetzt bin ich erstmal auf morgen gespannt.

The “European OpenAFS Workshop 2008″ will take place from Sep. the 24th to Sep. the 26th. at the SPSC Institute at Graz University of Technology in Graz in collaboration with the CGV Institute. The registration fee will be € 210,00 and will contain a T-shirt, two lunches, one dinner at a “Heurigen”, coffe & cake and some benefit for the lecturer. If you register till the 1st of September you can deduct € 50,00 for early booking discount.
We have looked for a couple of hotels near our University where you can stay for these three days. At some of them you will get a discount if you tell them that you are joining our event.

Call for Papers!
(Open)AFS is a distributed file system, used by people all over the world. After the last few workshops hold in the United States of America, this year the conference will be a hosted in Europe: Graz, Austria – September 24th-26th 2008.
In the last 13 years the German AFS workshop took place at different locations all over Germany. This year we broke this rule, held the workshop in Austria and invite ALL AFS users, administrators, developers and all with interest to the AFS file system to join our European conference. The conference talks will be held in English.
Invited speakers – Mr. Derrick Brashear and Mr. Jeffrey Altman – will attend the conference and talk about the current status of the OpenAFS foundation, software and future development. Additionally a debugging session is planned.

Anmelden am AFS kann man sich auch wunderbar per PAM. Das erspart dem User sowohl kinit als auch aklog.
Auf Debian werden hierfür zwei Pakete benötigt:
/etc/pam.d/common-auth:
auth optional pam_krb5.so forwardable debug
auth sufficient pam_unix.so use_first_pass nullok_secure
auth required pam_deny.so
/etc/pam.d/common-session:
session optional pam_krb5.so debug
session optional pam_openafs_session.so
session required pam_unix.so
Damit das auch über SSH funktioniert, noch eine kleine Änderung an der SSHd-Config.
/etc/ssh/sshd_config:
ChallengeResponseAuthentication yes
UsePAM yes
Im Falle dieser Beispiel-Config ist es wichtig, daß Kerberos-Passwörter und lokale Unix-Passwörter überein stimmen. Ändern läßt sich das z.B. per LDAP. root kann sich immer anmelden, selbst wenn das KDC nicht erreichbar ist.
Das Keyword “debug” kann entfernt werden, sobald per /var/log/authlog geklärt ist, daß der Login funktioniert.

Die 13. deutschsprachige AFS-Workshop findet am 20. und 21. September 2007 an der Universität zu Köln statt.
